What makes COOLSWAP™ work clothes effective for hot weather?

The fabric's doing two things at once: wicking fast enough that you're not soaked through by mid-morning, and blocking UV with UPF 50 that's built into the weave, not a coating that fades. That second part sounds like a bonus until you're outside in July for eight hours straight. COOLSWAP™ uses ultralight ripstop with LYCRA® EcoMade fiber, and the combo is lighter than most summer work clothes without feeling flimsy.

Do COOLSWAP™ pants and shorts have enough pockets for tools?

More than you'd expect. The Day X COOLSWAP™ Pant features nine pockets, the Christa X DIY COOLSWAP™ Pant has eight, and the Compass COOLSWAP™ Short comes equipped with seven. Every style in the collection includes a dedicated phone pocket for easy access.

The Compass COOLSWAP™ Short features reinforced front pockets, two bellowed zip cargo pockets, and two deep inset back pockets for secure, versatile storage.

The Day X COOLSWAP™ Pant also features reinforced back pockets, but goes a step further with snap closure back pockets and nested side pockets for additional organization.

Lastly, the Christa X DIY COOLSWAP™ Pant includes the nested side pockets, drops the reinforced pockets in the front, but makes it up with 2 front zip pockets and an added tool loop, making it ready for hands-on work and everyday carry.

How does COOLSWAP™ Active Cooling work?

Moisture is wicked away from your skin to the surface of the fabric, where it evaporates, removing heat from your body.

Are COOLSWAP™ work clothes durable enough for tough jobs?

Reinforced knees, Tough Cuff™ at the ankles, and ripstop fabric that doesn't snag and run the way lighter weaves sometimes do. These have gone through full seasons with landscapers and farmers — people who'd notice fast if the quality wasn't there. It's not delicate.

What kind of stretch can I expect from COOLSWAP™ workwear?

You will be able to squat, climb, and bend without pulling. The LYCRA® EcoMade fiber recovers quickly, so your pants aren't bagging out at the knees after a few weeks, which often happens with cheaper stretch blends.

Can I wear COOLSWAP™ for activities other than work?

The cooling pants for women who garden, hike, or camp in summer heat work just as well off the job site. We built them for work, but the performance doesn't clock out.

Is your UPF 50 sun protection applied as a chemical treatment?

No — it's structural. The protection is a result of the fiber content and weave, so it won't wash out. Same rating on day one as two years in, with no toxic side effects.

How does the fit of COOLSWAP™ pants compare to other Dovetail styles?

The Day X is a mid-rise style with a relaxed leg, extra room through the thigh, and a reinforced knee with a kneepad slot, making it a great choice if you're moving around a lot. It fits true to size for most people. The Christa X sits higher on the waist and has a slimmer leg with an articulated knee, so we typically recommend sizing up for the best fit. Both styles include the EZWaist™ stretch waistband, which helps provide a comfortable fit and reduces back-waist gapping.

What is the benefit of the EZWaist™ stretch waistband?

No gap when you bend over. The waistband moves with you instead of pulling away from your back every time you crouch down.

What is LYCRA® EcoMade fiber, and why is it used?

It's a stretch fiber made partly from recycled content — it's what gives COOLSWAP™ fabric its stretch and recovery. The environmental footprint is lower than standard fiber, which is a secondary reason we use it. The primary reason is that it moves well and holds its shape over time.
